Will My Insurance Cover Vision Therapy or Vision Rehabilitation?
Vision therapy or vision rehabilitation is used to treat diagnosed
vision conditions. In many cases, vision therapy/rehabilitation
is the only available and effective treatment option for these
conditions. Treatment may be covered under major medical insurance
however, some insurance companies and managed care plans may deny
or place severe limits on coverage for vision therapy services
as a cost saving measure.
Under all forms of medical insurance plans, you have a right
to request a review of any service that is denied coverage or
for which coverage is severely limited. If you believe your plan
has incorrectly evaluated the claim for coverage, acted arbitrarily,
or discriminated unfairly against you, you should consider requesting
a review.
Coverage for vision therapy or vision rehabilitation has no
relationship to vision and eye care plans that cover eye examinations,
eyeglasses, or contact lenses once every year or two.
Your insurance company may cover our services and we encourage
you to seek reimbursement. We will provide you with a detailed
receipt to submit with your insurance claim.
Do not allow insurance companies to make arbitrary decisions
that prevent you or your child from receiving necessary care.
As always our recommendations for care will be based on maximizing
success in school, work and sports.
